Mindfulness-Based Conflict ResolutionOver the past decade, a social, political, and practical evolution has taken place away from an adversarial system of conflict resolution and towards one based upon consensus, collaboration, and mutual interests. The reasons for this change are many. A few of the more compelling reasons arise from social needs, interpersonal needs, and business interests. In response to this evolution, we have developed an approach to conflict resolution that incorporates mindfulness tools and techniques with standard approaches for resolving conflict. Mindfulness-based conflict resolution is an approach that takes into consideration the unique needs of your business environment, and the interests and issues of the parties involved. While not all conflict can be resolved, we work with the parties to find cooperative solutions that support positive forward motion, rather than stagnation. Our processes emphasize ethical negotiation, consensus building, and collaboration. We strive to find solutions that will not only meet the challenges of the current situation, but will provide an ongoing structure for the resolution of future issues. Mindfulness is a valuable skill in resolving any conflict. To have conflict resolved effectively, the mediator must be present to and fully aware in each moment of the mediation; understanding that there is a common source of information and a unique level of communication that can be shared among all participants to a dispute. Using mindfulness in conflict resolution allows the mediator to be fully conscious to the respective interests and needs of the parties involved, resulting in their understanding of the source of the conflict, and locating the means for resolution. Our mindfulness programs for conflict resolution helps the parties to rise and remain above the confusion that surrounds any conflict and connects them with the opportunities for resolution that are present. It also allows them to be aware of and open to receiving those often subtle messages that, if missed, can mean the difference between helping the parties resolve their conflict and an opportunity lost. |
